Need for Research and Priority Areas

The homeopathic research is gaining momentum, and this surge has sparked a new era, where the responsibility lies in undertaking quality research. There is a small but robust research portfolio for homeopathy ranging from basic science to clinical research and it continues to grow today around the world. A research question is generated out of choice, interest, observation and uncertainty and there are many areas in homeopathy where we should venture on a priority basis, in order to attain quality documentation of reliable evidence. Priority areas also serve as a guide for researchers and funding agencies. The aim of prioritization is to promote innovative proposals to stimulate increased quality, visibility or availability of research at a national, regional or international level. The “priority” depends upon many factors which may range from available resources, the applicability of research, health care needs, expertise, etc.

Executive Summary

In May 2014, IPRH published the first version (1.1) of Priority Areas for Research in Homeopathy (PARH) whose development was guided by common questions people usually ask, “where and what to start researching in homeopathy”. In November 2014 the second version (1.2) was published considering the reviews received for version 1.1. The version 1.3 preserved the original frameworks (1.1 and 1.2) with minor updates, as deemed necessary and was updated in November 2016. The current version is 1.4 with minor additions and updates.

Objectives

The PARH has been developed to:
“Identify homeopathic research priorities considering experiences and critical gaps that can be adapted by clinicians, academicians, researchers/research institutions, local health authorities and funding agencies”

Applicability of this Document

PARH doesn’t aim to replace existing documents/material on priority areas developed by researchers and health care systems, but rather aim to aid them with the common consensus. This document may be used to:

  • Create awareness amongst homeopathic fraternity regarding research areas which are of vital importance considering the present status of homeopathy, resources and expertise.
  • Ease out identification of areas of one’s own interest and thus provoke thinking process regarding “where to start working”.
  • Suggest an exhaustive list of priority areas which are important to venture into, and thus innovative proposals may be developed on these lines.
  • An exhaustive list of topics for MD, post-graduation, and PhD thesis topics.

Thanks for the invitation.I would suggest a focus on areas where the need for alternatives to allopathic medicine is most felt. These include:
a)Cancers
b)Arthritides
c)Migraine
d)Neurodegenerative disorders
e)Autoimmune disorders
We should be open to the idea of using homeopathy medicines as an adjunct to conventional allopathy and seeing if this approach is better than allopathic alone. This approach would enhance acceptability and application of homeopathy.

Dear Sir, I totally agree with your view point. If you have any idea or concept paper on any of the above topic we can start working it out through PHORECISS.

We should focus on answering the following three vital questions of Homoeopathy. It will help in enthroning homoeopathy on its rightful status of the most advanced branch of modern medical science, unfairly denied more than past two hundered and fifty years.
1.What exactly happens during potentization? What is the exact process involved?
2.Whar are the active principles of potentized drugs?
3.What is the process by which these active principles of potentized drugs interect with the organism and produce therepeutic effect?

I would suggest that this can be a focus but not a priority if there had to be a choice as I believe that focusing on dx tx as adjunct or as stand alone is best time spent as this is too contentious and until science taught at schools as quantum and not mechanical we have a long way to go on the front of dealing with skeptics…never mind the paid ones but the regular public.

Thank you for your invitation to participate .
I think that to solve the big questions of basic research on the mechanisms of action of homeopathy is an important line. However, applied research on the treatment of the most severe or prevalent diseases of population will provide greater practical value and serve to include homeopathy within the conventional medical practice, as an integrative medicine.
In Western countries conventional health policies are very interesting in research on health systems strategies for the control of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, degenerative joint disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and so on.
Can homeopathy help to improve control of these chronic diseases, improving the quality of life and reducing health spending? If conclusively we demonstrate this, it is very likely that homeopathy reach greater acceptance as a medical discipline.

I believe that epidemic dxs in the world that hit the news as it were and that the WHO are tracking and the public is watching are good to tx and research and publish on in journals that are medically inclined but would make it to mainstream media for instance so that the public can hear of…having said that can be difficult with bias in various forums from academic through to popular media. So, even if just get into Nature, med journals and such that is huge!!
