Primary dysmenorrhea – No its not Lachesis alone!

Translational value

Primary dysmenorrhoea is a common yet important clinical condition as it is connected to physical, mental and social (overall health) challenges.

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was undertaken to see the effect of indicated homeopathic medicines vs placebo in the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea in 128 females allocated in identical groups.. The patients were followed for 3 months and intensity of pain of dysmenorrhea was assessed.

It was concluded that homeopathic medicines acted significantly better than placebo in the management of pain. Natrum muriaticum and Pulsatilla were found to be most frequently prescribed medicines.
