The Unconventional Use of Ultra High (Homeopathic) Dilutions

Quick Research Byte

The realm of ultra high dilutions has expanded from merely being used in homeopathy (clinical use of UHDs = Homeopathy).

The use of UHDs have been experimented in various fields such as Agronomy, Veterinary, Dentistry, Public Health Care system etc., but lately their application has a new avenue to be experimented upon.

In 2016, Nandy et al proposed a new dimension to the application of UHDs. In an interesting manner, the authors used UHDs of Ferrum metallicum and Zincum oxidatum to improve the electrical properties of the electroactive Poly (vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP). The PVDF-HFP composite films were synthesized in their usual way, but an incorporation of Ferrum and Zinc-o could make the film as homeo-PVDF-composite with enhancement of the electrical properties. The work suggested that it may be possibly due to the presence of nanoparticle, as hypothesized by the group.

In their latest article, “Improvisation of electrical properties of PVDF-HFP: use of novel metallic nanoparticles”, Nandy P et al continued the work further on PVDF-HFP films. The electrical properties of nanocomposite films were improved by incorporating triturated Copper (Cuprum metallicum) and Cobalt nanoparticles. Here authors have used the very low molarity repeatedly shaken diluted liquid (VLMRSDL) (similar to potentization in homeopathy). It is stated that,

  • The room temperature dielectric constant of the pure PVDF-HFP at 20 Hz frequency increases with increase in potentisation of the solvent containing the triturated metal nano particles and reaches a maximum almost 4 times the value of the pure one.”
  • These films have higher dielectric permittivity and significantly lower dissipation factor (tanδ) at room temperature compared to the pure PVDF-HFP.
  • The triturated metal nanoparticles are inexpensive, easy to fabricate and environment friendly.
  • The incorporation of these novel nanoparticles in polymer matrix to get enhanced improved electrical properties will have a significant contribution in the present day research in electronics.
